Summer Series, 29 June 2003

Report

Last weekend was the first two races of the Hastings and St Leonards sailing clubs summer series. The sailors were greeted by a good south easterly breeze which lead to a very good day sailing. The morning race for the Laser fleet was won by Don Bowles, followed by Rex Patching and Steve Clark. In the Maverick fleet first and second places were both awarded to Miracles. The first of which was sailed by Dudley Harris and Roy Richardson, the second by Martin Watson and Jenny Challacombe.

There was a great battle between the Dart 16s, especially in the afternoon with an incredibly close competitive start. In the first race sisters Laura and Claire Wiseman won, Mark Pollard with his dad Mike second and father and daughter duo, Robert and Emily Hamilton in third. In the afternoon Mark Pollard swapping his dad for his brother Shaun, managed to sneak through in front of the Wiseman's, who had also had a crew change, this time dad John replaced Claire. The commodore Barry Duck jumped up a place with his crew Tom Norris to gain an overall third.

Murray Greenhill triumphed in the Topper fleet, Jon Norris was second and Matt Wiseman was third. In the afternoon the gusts got stronger. Bowles again won the Laser fleet, this time with Steve Clark moving up to second and Charles Humphreys in third. Harris and Richards once more came first out of the Mavericks as they were the only one to start. Murray Greenhill carried on his lead in the afternoon out of the Topper fleet, this time with Matt Wiseman second and Richard Playford third.

The Merlin Rockets continued their usual battle. Don and Sarah Terry won in the morning but John and Richard Parmenter were victorious in the afternoon as the Terrys failed to finish.

Thanks to Emily Hamilton for the report
