Late Summer Series 2007

12 Lasers, 4 Dart 16’s, 1 Merlin and 1 RS 700 took part in races 10, 11 and 12 in the Late Summer Series with winds between force 3 to 4.

 The Dart 16’s got underway in race 10, with Mike Pollard and John Wiseman gaining a good victory over Matt Wiseman and Richard Playford, with Rob Hamilton and Jane Watkins in 3^rd place.

In race 11 Wiseman and Playford finished 1^st from Richard Bourne and K Bourne with Pollard and Wiseman taking 3^rd place.

Race 12 saw Hamilton and Chris Adams in 1^st place with John Wiseman in 2^nd with Mike Pollard in 3^rd.

Most of the Laser sailors decided to use their smaller Radial sails, as the wind was a bit gusty. This gives them a small time advantage on handicap and more control compared with the Lasers with the Standard bigger sails, but with less wind power.

In race 10 the first 4 boats over the finish line were quite close with Steve Clark finishing in front of Roy Sandford with Down Bowles finishing 3^rd on handicap ahead of Martin Watson.

In race 11 with the tide now going out, Bowles was the only Laser to start at the beach end of start line to take advantage of the weaker currents nearer the shore. He had a good advantage until the wind decided to change from NE to SE and by the time he got to the first mark, three other boats had taken advantage of the wind change to be ahead of him. On the next lap the wind went back to the NE and again Bowles took the route near to the shore, while the others went again out to sea. This time it paid off and Bowles finished 1^st ahead of Claude Sgro with Martin Watson in 3^rd again losing a place on handicap.

Race 12 was won by Sandford from Clark with Melanie Clark finishing in 3^rd place.
