Saturday saw the first day of racing in the five race Shearwater and Dart 16 Open meeting. There were seven boats in the Shearwater Class.The first afternoon race took place in force 5 winds, (gusting to force 6) mainly from the south west.
There was only one taker for this race in the Shearwaters with local man Greg Wilcox crewed by Shaun Allen having a walk over in very difficult conditions. The second race was cancelled.
Sunday in race three of the Shearwaters, with the full compliment of seven boats taking part, Alan Howland crewed by Jenny Allen (RYA) took the lead from Dion Allen crewed by Anna Allen (RYA) with Roger Crooks crewed by Bonnie Crooks (Stone SC) in 3rd. they kept this order till the third lap, and at the finish Howland and Allen were still in the lead from the Allen’s with Murray Greenhill crewed by Chris Masters (Hastings and St Leonards) taking 3rd place at the end.
Race 4 saw Howland and Allen again leading from start to finish. Greenhill and Masters were second for most of the race, but finished in 3rd. The Crooks started in the rear but by the last lap they had climbed up from 6th place to finish 2nd.
The last race in the Shearwaters went again to Howland and Allen after improving their position from 3rd place after lap 1. Wilcox and Allen came through the field to claim 2nd place with Nigel Stuart crewed by Sarah Stewart (RYA) finishing in 3rd.
