On Sunday the sea was flat, but winds coming from the north east at force 4 -5 buffeted the eight Laser Radials, two Laser 4.7’s, three Dart 16’s and two Merlin Rockets causing a few capsizes in races 10, 11and 12 of the Spring Series races.

As usual the Darts went off first in race 10. The positions changed many times during the 5 lap race. But Peter Sharrod crewed by Richard Playforth had a good finish to take 1st place from Matt Wiseman crewed by Tom Alexander with Rob Hamilton crewed by Tayla Playford in 3rd.

Race 11 saw Hamilton and Playford getting a good start finishing 1st from Sharrod and Playforth, Wiseman and Alexander floundered in 3rd plaice after getting their rudder stuck in a fishing net.

Wiseman and Alexander went on to finish an easy 1st in race 12.

In race 10 a match race of the Merlins, John Parmenter crewed by Richard Parmeter got off to a brilliant start timing the start to perfection, and stayed ahead of Don Terry and crew Sarah Terry to the finish.

Race 11 saw the Parmenters again stay in front of the Terry’s to finish 1st.

In the Laser Series Tom Richardson had a very good day finishing 1st in all three races. Race 10 got underway with Richardson timing the start just as well as Parmenter in the Merlins race, but in a close fight Roy Sandford finished 12 seconds in front of Richardson with Steve Clark in 3rd and Don Bowles in 4th. But on handicap Richardson (Laser 4.7) won, with Sandford (Laser Radial) 2nd, Melanie Clark (Laser 4.7) 3rd and Clark 4th.

Race 11 saw a very close finish with Steve Clark finishing fast to edge out Bowles by 2 seconds with Richardson in 3rd and Martin Watson in 4th. The Laser 4.7’s again coming in to their own as the revised handicap positions meant that Richardson was 1st, Melanie Clark 2nd, Steve Clark 3rd and Bowles 4th.

The last race 12 was more spread out with the competitors tiring. Young Richardson finished 3 minutes in front of Bowles with Karen Hilder 3rd and Melanie Clark 4th. Revised positions were Richardson 1st, Bowles 2nd Melanie Clark 3rd and Hilder 4th.
