Late Summer Series Races 1, 2 and 3
Thirteen Lasers, three Dart 16’s, one Miracle, one Taser and a Mirror took part in races 1, 2 and 3 of the Late Summer Series. The wind was coming from the south west at force 3 to 4.
The Darts started first with Barry Duck crewed by Charlotte Auld leading the way from John Wiseman crewed by Laura Wiseman with Richard Bourne crewed by Sam Bourne. They continued in this order for the next six laps. Duck & Auld finished 1st, The Wiseman's finished 2nd and the Bourne's 3rd.
In races 2 and 3 Duck and Auld stayed in front of the Wiseman’s to win both races, the Bourne’s finished 3rd in race 2.
The Lasers started off keenly in race 1, with two boats over the line early. Neither returned to the start, so were disqualified. Steve Clark took the lead from Roy Sandford with Claude Sgro in 3rd. by the 4th lap it was still close between Clark and Sandford with Don Bowles in 3rd. They stayed in this order to the finish.
Race 2 was a short race, this time Sandford started in the lead from Clark with Bowles in 3rd. They stayed in this order to the end.
Race 3 started on a altered course, Mick Lane lead for the first lap from Martin Watson with Sandford and Clark following. Soon after the start of the second lap Sandford went into the lead from Clark with Watson in 3rd. The first two stayed close to each other for the next three laps, with Sandford winning from Clark, Watson was 3rd.
The Taser and the Miracle raced against each other in the first two races. Will Hodgson crewed by Lizzie Faulkner in the Taser boat beat Roy Richards and Dudley Harris in the Miracle in both races.
Race 3 had extra competitors in John Parmenter crewed by Richard Parmenter in a Merlin, but they were a bit too keen and were over the line before the start. Richards and Harris were also over the line but they went back to start again. Mean while Hodgson and Faulkner had a good start and went on to win the race from Richards and Harris.
