Shearwater TT
Saturday races started in force 4 to 5 winds from the south west. Six Shearwaters launched in the heavy seas, but before the 1st race started two of the boat had minor damage and did not start. Roger Crook (Stone SC) crewed by Dion Allen was in the lead after the first lap from Nigel Stuart (RYA) crewed by Sarah Stewart, with Shaun Allen (Felixstow Ferry SC ) crewed by Catherine Alan Howland in 3rd with Alan Howland (RYA) crewed by Jenny Allen in 4th. After two laps all positions had changed with Allen and Howland leading from Crook and Allen with Howland and Allen in 3rd. Positions stayed in this order until the race end.
Race 2 started with all six boats, The Stuarts lead from the start from Greg Wilcox (H&StLSC) crewed by Murray Greenhill with Allen and Howland in 3rd. The Stuarts continued to lead to the end but Allen and Howland gained a place on the last lap with Wilcox and Murray in 3rd. The last race of the day saw all the competitors getting fatigued with the difficult conditions. After a false start and a general recall Barry Duck H&StLSC) crewed by Charlotte Duck and the Stuart’s did not start. Allen and Howland lead from the start with Wilcox and Murray in 2nd with Crook and Allen in 3rd. Wilcox and Murray suffered another mechanical failure on the second lap and had to retire. Allen and Howland lead to near the finish when on the last run their main sail started to come down with equipment failure, they had to retire and struggle in just using their jib sail. Crook and Allen took the advantage to win with Howard and Allen in 2nd.
Sunday morning races were delayed waiting for the tide to cover the rocks before the boats could be launched in the force 4 winds from the south west.
Race 4 Allen and Howland started off well to lead from the Stuarts with Wilcox and Murray in 3rd. After the first lap the Stuart’s took the lead from Allen and Howland. They kept these positions to the end. Crook and Allen improved into 3rd place.
Race 5 started with Wilcox and Murray taking the lead from Allen and Howland with the Stuarts in 3rd. Allen and Howland overtook Wilcox and Murray on the 2nd lap to go on and win. The last race in the competition went again to Allen and Howland from Wilcox and Murray with Crook and Allen 3rd.
