Spring Series 2009

There were thirteen Lasers, two Dart 16’s, one RS 500, one Taser and a Topper on the water for the first race in the Spring Series. The wind was a little stronger than forecast coming from the north, north, east at force 3 with gusts up to force 4.

Most of the Lasers started using Radial sails which are smaller than the Standard sail. Max Richardson started well followed by Steve Clark and Roy Sandford in the fast conditions.  In the four lap race the wind gradually went round to the south east and dropped to a gentle breeze but the positions stayed the same through out the race with Richardson winning by nearly three minutes. Clark was 2^nd and Sandford 3^rd. Matt Evans sporting a Standard sail took an uncharacteristic plunge in the cold sea when a gust hit him, but he still recovered to get back to 4^th place. At the end of the race the pier was gradually disappearing as a sea mist was rolling in. The next race was postponed, but conditions did not get much better, so the next two scheduled races were cancelled.
