On another cold day at sea there were eight boats on the water in races 4 5 of the Spring Series. The wind was mainly coming from the North West at about12 mph, but gusting at times up to 18mph, the sea was flat.
The two Darts went of first with Tom Nash crewed by Maurice Nash leading the way from Rob Hamilton crewed by Tayla Playford. The Nash’s stayed ahead all the way round for the three lap race.
The Lasers went off next Karen Hilder started well from Steve Phillips with Roy Sandford in 3rd. On the second and last lap Sandford improved his position into 2nd place, but failed to catch Hilder by half a minute. Phillips finished 3rd.
In race 5 the Darts did not race. The Lasers had a very tight start up to the first mark where Hilder was too close, dragging her sail around the mark. She had to do a penalty 360 ͦ turn, this put her back in 4th place as Sandford lead the way from Phillips and Hugh Ashford in 3rd.
On the second lap Hilder fought her way back up to second place behind Sandford, with Ashford in 3rd. On the last lap Hilder was challenging Sandford for the lead near the finish buoy but after boats touched with Sandford having the right of way, Hilder had to complete a penalty of a 720 ͦ turn and pass the finish again. This put her into 3rd place behind Sandford with Ashford finishing in 2nd.
Race 6 was cancelled as the conditions were cold.
